In response to growing demand from the public sector, a Luxembourg company has developed a special process for de-dusting archives.
The Luxembourg-based company Labgroup employs around one hundred people. It has 400,000 archive boxes in 25,000 m² of storage space.
In isolated, high-security rooms, two qualified operators delicately handle the archives they have to dust. Over the past year, Labgroup, a Luxembourg-based company specializing in paper and electronic archiving, has developed a new service in the Grand Duchy: archive dust removal. This specific method required several months of training for the company. “It took us around six months to prepare everything, and we called in French experts to train us,” explains Yannick Pissel, product manager at Labgroup.
But how does this method work? “There are several stages. After recovering the archives, we start by placing them in a quarantine room. In this room, we manage to control temperature and humidity. To be precise, it’s between 13 and 18°C and the maximum humidity is between 45 and 55%.” The isolation phase can last from one to three months, depending on the state of deterioration of the archive.
As well as dusting archives, the Luxembourg-based company also carries out document destruction. Labgroup destroys up to 500 tonnes of paper every year. However, these archives are not thrown away, but recycled. “We make new paper. We also get a lot of requests, particularly from companies. Under data protection regulations, we can’t keep financial, accounting or contractual archives for more than 10 years. So we have to throw everything away,” explains Yannick Pissel.
