The Digital Transition Hub

In 2020 we moved to our building called the Digital Transition Hub (DTH). It was designed to fit environmental standards and has been furnished to enhance the comfort of employees.

It presents a lot of energetic advantages thanks to:

  • Solar panels, installed on the rough and combined with green energy consumption,
  • Rainwater recovery, used for the toilets and the plants watering,
  • Active slab to reduce the use of heating and air cooling.

DTH design and installation

Solar panels

Labgroup contributes to the development of photovoltaic energy in Luxembourg, by supporting the government’s commitments; the National Energy and Climate Plan (pPNEC) project aims to achieve 25% renewable energy by 2030.

1392 solar panels with a power of 459 kWh are installed on the roof of the Digital Transition Hub. This installation is able to produce 403 MWh annually, which represents the annual energy consumption of more than 100 single-family homes!

At the moment, the production of green electricity is reintroduced to the energy market, as Labgroup itself consumes green electricity bought from our provider Enovos. We are considering storing the output of our solar panels in the DTH for consumption. This way we are able to develop our activities through responsible energy.

Desks & Chairs

Desks and chairs have been chosen carefully to meet health and comfort standards.

Desks are height adjustable and therefore allow to work seated at a suitable height or standing allowing to reduce back pain.

The chairs are adjustable in every way: the inclination of the backrest, its depth, the support of the lumbar, the inclination of the seat, the height, the placement of the armrests… This was implemented for the well-being of our employees. In addition, adapted chairs have also been offered to employees with back problems.

Desk

Showers

Showers are available for all employees on each floor of the building.

Water

Rainwater is collected in underground tanks and is reused for toilets and outdoors plants. By doing so, no drinkable water is used and plants benefit from essential minerals for their growth.

In addition, electric taps equipped with filters purifies the drinking water from municipal water networks. Employees can fill their eco-responsible bottle by choosing between sparkling, tempered or cold water. It also allows us to reduce plastic waste.

Electric charging stations

2 Charging stations for electrical vehicles have been installed at the DTH car park so that employees are able to charge their vehicles (4 vehicles can be charged simultaneously).

These charging stations, called SuperChargy, are powered by green electricity and offer ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles.

Acoustic panels

Acoustic panels have been installed in the offices, meeting rooms and kitchens to limit echoes and noise pollution.

Active Slabs

Active slabs are a building ventilation system that reduces the consumption of heating during winter and the use of air conditioning during summer.

The principle of this system consists of integrating pipes into the slabs of each floor, through which cold water runs. It allows optimal use of renewable energy sources and complies with building sustainability certifications.

“CSR is for us the path we follow to better respond to the challenges we face, like any company that wants to be responsible: the climate, supply, demand for transparency or the expectations of stakeholders.”

“We are always trying to rethink our activity and improve our way of doing things. Continuous improvement is my credo!”

“We are in line with the company’s guidelines which consist in using the least energy-consuming equipment possible.”

“We are constantly evolving as we keep seeking new practices and we learn from our collaborators”

“We make sure to work with providers who align with our CSR principles for all our events. It is by working together and in the same direction that we will achieve our goals!”

“We aim for excellence, but also independence and respect for the environment. Our Digital Transition Hub fits perfectly into this philosophy.”

“We were already in this universe before the term CSR was used. It’s a philosophy that we have always had.”

“We efficiently rationalise energy consumption in our datacentres by using eco-green labelled materials, even if it is more expensive. Ecology first.”

“Our goal is not just to reduce our bad impacts, but to create positive results!”

Biodiversity

What’s extra: We have dedicated space to green area, we promote biodiversity through the installation of beehives and grow fruits.

Plants

You can find specific plant sorts all around the building to enhance biodiversity, offer housing and food for little mammals, but also welcome pollinizing species.

Moreover, fruit trees are planted in front and behind the building: vines, wild apple trees, wild pear trees, cherry trees…

Rooftop

A terrace is fitted out on the roof. It can accommodate employees for their lunch break and planters are also distributed all around the terrace, and around the greenhouse.

Greenhouse

There is also a greenhouse on the terrace, on the roof of the Digital Transition Hub.

Employees will be able to garden during their free time and even harvest some vegetables.

Bumblebee hives

Since 2021, bumblebee hives are installed every spring on the roof of the Digital Transition Hub, and bumblebees fly free all around the building and in the zoning.
