Windows Agent Console 6.82 provides a centralized point of control for managing backups and restores for computers on small or large networks. You can use Windows Agent Console to remotely configure, monitor, and manage all backup and restore activities for a Vault. You can configure a backup to copy selected files, databases, a complete system, or a remote Vault using a local network (intranet) or the Internet (as well as to local devices). You can schedule backups to occur at regular intervals, or you can run them immediately (unscheduled, or "ad hoc"). All backup and restore functions are monitored and information is recorded in the log files. Users can also receive an email notification when a backup succeeds or fails. Note: Windows Agents now use a VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) based open file manager for backup of open or locked files. Although the Open Transaction Manager (OTM) is not used by default, you can still use it with older or custom Jobs. ----------------------------------------------------------- 1.1 Release History Version 6.80.3326, November 29th, 2010 Version 6.82.3385, February 28th, 2011 ----------------------------------------------------------- 1.2 Supported Platforms See the "Shipping Products Chart" for supported platforms for Windows Agent Console. ___________________________________________________________ =========================================================== 2 FEATURES Windows Agent Console 6.82 is intended for use with Windows Agent 6.82, which supports MAPI backups for Exchange 2010. ___________________________________________________________ =========================================================== 3 INSTALLATION NOTES 3.1 Installation Requirements These are the installation requirements for the Agent Console program: Hardware -------- * CPU and RAM - should meet the minimum requirements of your operating system. * A minimum of 30 MB of available disk space Software -------- * Operating System - with Internet Explorer 6.0 or later See the "Shipping Products Chart" for Windows Agent Console supported platforms. * Network - A TCP/IP stack (to communicate with Agent systems) ----------------------------------------------------------- 3.2 Conditional Requirements The Agent software must be installed and configured with Agent Console on every computer that you back up. See the Agent Console Operations Guide for detailed information. However, a valid license is required on the Vault for backing up to and restoring from a Vault. For more information about licensing, speak to your service provider. This file contains the error codes and resource strings that the event viewer uses to display the Agent messages. ___________________________________________________________ =========================================================== 4 KNOWN ISSUES and FIXES 4.1 Fixes Exchange MAPI Job encoding text for Windows Agent Console has been updated to be consistent with Web Agent Console for default (code page) encoding. (14379) ----------------------------------------------------------- 4.2 Known Issues Microsoft Vista and Windows Server 2008 and later no longer support .hlp files. The WinHlp32.exe file that is used to open .hlp files is no longer installed with the Operating System. When a user attempts to open a .hlp file, they receive the error message "Failed to launch help" (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607#appliesto). To allow your users to open .hlp files, ask them to download the Microsoft update that is available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607.
