Support for backup and restore of data on GPT drives (BMR not supported). ________________________________________________________ ======================================================== 3 INSTALLATION NOTES 3.1 Windows Agent 6.82 64-bit 3.1.1 Installation Requirements * A computer running one of the supported operating systems listed in Section 1.2 * CPU and RAM to meet the basic requirements of your operating system, as prescribed by Microsoft * 16-bit (or greater) video properties for optimal GUI display * Windows Internet Explorer 6 (or greater) * A TCP/IP stack (for communicating with the vault, Agent, and Agent Console software). * At least 100 MB of free disk space for a new installation. An upgrade may require more. If there is not enough disk space, the application will issue a message. Also, for this installation, the system drive requires free space to decompress the package (regardless of which drive the installation targets). The actual amount of space will vary, but a recommended amount of 100 to 200 MB should suffice. The environment variables TEMP and TMP use %USERPROFILE% by default. Make sure that this variable points to a drive that has sufficient temporary space. This release is for use in combination with Web or Windows Agent Console 6.82, and Vault 5.53, 6.04a, 6.21d, or later. -------------------------------------------------------- 3.1.2 Conditional Requirements * To protect databases on a DAG: The Agent with the Exchange 2010 Plug-In only needs to be installed on one member of a Data Availability Group. The Agent will have access to the database copies on that particular DAG member. * To protect User Mailboxes, Archive Mailboxes and Public Folders on a DAG: The Exchange 2010 Plug-In must be installed on each DAG member that has mailbox(es). *To backup mailboxes * You require .NET Framework 2.0 if you install the Agent Assistant with the Agent. * DO NOT INSTALL the Agent in a Windows-encrypted directory. * The Agent uses the VSS writers that come with the Operating System and Application. Third-party VSS writers are not supported. Exclude installation directories (as well as anti-virus directories) from open-file protection. Note: If you use an anti-virus (AV) program, disable real-time scanning on reads (called "outgoing" on some AV products). Do not back up the actual AV directories. In order to graphically configure and administer the Agent, you need to install Agent Console on a network- connected Windows system. To manage an Agent from both Windows Agent Console and Web Agent Console, you must install them using the same service-account user identities. That is, the "Software BUAgent" and "Software Agent" service accounts must be the same. Otherwise, the BUAgent will not be able to provide status or administration functions. The accounts under which services run appear in the VVAgent and BUAgent logs. -------------------------------------------------------- 3.1.3 Licensing To backup and restore data to/from a data-protection vault, you need a valid account, username and password. Contact your Service Provider to obtain the required information. -------------------------------------------------------- 3.1.4 Install/Uninstall/Upgrade Included application File List The 64-bit Agent kit installs: 6.82.3388 - buagent.exe 6.82.3388 - VV.exe 6.82.3388 - VVAgent.exe 6.82.3388 - Exchange2010Plugin.dll 6.82.3388 - ExchangeVSSPlugin.dll 6.82.3388 - VVExch.dll 6.82.3388 - VVExchMapi.dll 6.82.3388 - SharePointPlugin.dll 6.82.3388 - SQLSvr70.dll * Agent software (VVAgent) Note: The Agent installation will place the file VVClMsg.dll in the System directory. This file contains the error codes and resource strings that the event viewer uses to display Agent messages. ======================================================== 3.2 Plug-Ins Exchange 2010 DR and MAPI This version of the Plug-In supports: - Protecting User Mailboxes, Archive Mailboxes and Public Folders - Exchange Server 2010 backups and restores - DAG (Database Availability Group) - DR Backup Mounted and/or Healthy 2010 databases - Exchange Server 2010 full and incremental backups for mailbox and public folder databases - Existing database renaming/moving during full and incremental backups - Restore all databases to original locations and alternate locations - Restore selected databases to original locations and alternate locations - Restore a database to alternate database - Restore a database to a recovery database - Restore from a directory on disk For Exchange Server 2010 DAG, the Plug-In supports: - User Mailboxes, Archive Mailboxes and Public Folders - Exchange Server 2010 backups and restores - DR Backup of only Mounted and/or Healthy 2010 databases - Restore all databases that were backed up with a Mounted or Healthy copy status to original locations - Restore all databases that were backed up with a Mounted or Healthy copy status to an alternate location - Restore selected databases that were backed up with a Mounted or Healthy copy status to an alternate locations - Restore a database that was backed up with a Mounted or Healthy copy status to an alternate database - Restore a database that was backed up with a Mounted or Healthy copy status to a recovery database - Restore a database that was backed up with a Mounted or Healthy copy status from a directory on disk The Exchange 2010 Plug-In will only support Backup and Restore with version 6.0 and above of the Vault. You must install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Native Client. -------------------------------------------------------- SharePoint Plug-In SQL Server Native Client is required. SharePoint Plug-In backup jobs that use multiple, separate SQL Servers are not supported. That is, you cannot have SharePoint environments that use different SQL Server instances to host the various SharePoint databases. -------------------------------------------------------- Cluster Plug-In This version of the Plug-In supports SQL Server 2008 (SP2). Install it as part of the Agent: 1. Install Agents and Plug-Ins on Physical Nodes. 2. Configure Cluster, or SQL 64-bit Plug-Ins on the Physical Nodes. 3. Create a new Agent for your Cluster on the Virtual Node using the IP address or host name. 4. From the newly created Agent, double-click the Global file to open the "Virtual server shared area" window. From here, select a drive letter for your Cluster, and then click OK. This will open the Agent Configuration Window. 5. Here you must specify your Vault connection information. Click OK to finish. ________________________________________________________ ======================================================== 4 KNOWN ISSUES and FIXES 4.1 Fixes in This Release "Synchronizing Agent to Base Vault fails with error "Cannot find target Vault". This has been fixed in this release. (20080) Numerous 6.81 Windows Agents Show Offline in Web Agent Console. This has been fixed in this release. (20064) System State backup fails with VSS -E-05563 GetVolume MountPointW() failed for i:\jdedwards (OS error: ) This has been fixed in this release. (20007) Multiple Agents have DTA file corruption; Synchronize Often Does Not Rebuild DTA. This has been fixed in this release. (20003) System State Backup Fails with NONE-E-05548 VsscBackup: :getSnapshotPath internal error - failed to map volume Volume{6de50b63-f290-11df-8769-005056946059}. This has been fixed in this release. (19979) Win 2008 Server Becomes Unresponsive During Backup and must be Rebooted. This has been fixed in this release. (19991) BUAgent consumes large amount of memory. This has been fixed in this release. (19220) Agent gets stuck in reconnection with Vault. This has been fixed in this release. (19717) Agent core dumps when it restores from an offline safeset (detached Secondary Storage). This has been fixed in this release. (18776) -------------------------------------------------------- 4.2 Known Issues The Agent does not backup and recover a file's hardlink when located in a folder mounted on another partition. A restore does not contain the hardlink information and restores actual files. (20475) Restoring Exchange 2003 MAPI backups to an Exchange 2010 Mapi PST file. The user can restore to a PST file on Exchange 2010 from a backup on another machine as long as the backup was done using the Default encoding (ANSI). If the backup was done using Unicode, the only choice is to restore to the original mailbox. Restoring to the original mailbox can be done even if the mailbox has been moved to a different database or server in the environment. If the user/mailbox does not exist, a new user with the exact same name and location in AD at the time of the backup has to be created with a mailbox. If the user account has been moved to a different Organizational Unit in the AD environment after the backup, the user would have to be moved back to the original OU to restore to the mailbox. (20458) Windows Agent Console is intermittently unable to browse existing or new Exchange 2007 MAPI Jobs after an upgrade of the Agent from 6.72a 64-bit to 6.82 64-bit. WORKAROUND: Create a new Job using the 6.82 Agent. (20429) When selecting databases for a backup in Exchange 2003 (with Windows Agent Console or Web Agent Console) the version and build beside the server name may show up as an Exchange 2000 Version and Build. This is a cosmetic problem which may occur if two Exchange servers are registered in the same Active Directory, and the first one is Exchange 2003, and the second one is Exchange 2010. (19526) An error message appears in the backup log when the database location or log file location is moved to another volume between incremental backups. "EX10-F-08978 A gap was detected in log files for database . Log file .LOG is missing. You will need to re-run a Full backup." As a workaround, you should run an ad hoc full backup to establish a new baseline. (19455) Warning message: "EX10-W-08965: Either database selection has changed or databases were added. Forcing to Full backup." This message will appear for Exchange Server 2010 Incremental database backups when new databases have been added to the include selection, or new databases have been removed from the include selection. (19454) Recovery databases can be selected for backup but will silently be discarded as they cannot be backed up using VSS. (19451) Restoring Exchange databases to an alternate location fails for a fully qualified filename greater than 260 characters, and directory names greater than 248 characters. Please refer to the Maximum Path Length Limitation in the following Microsoft Document: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa365247.aspx Workaround: Alternate location restores for names and directories that are shorter will succeed. (18292) Exchange VSS backups may fail when third-party Shadow Copy Providers exist on the system. WORKAROUND: user can set registry to force select system provider: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\\Agent\ UseSystemVSSProvider = 1 (DWORD) (17805) Getting "unable to locate SharePoint Instance" in log and "Failed to connect to SharePoint" on-screen when trying access the SharePoint environment while creating a job. Workaround: SharePoint Plug-In requires SQL Server Native Client (version 9) installed on the same machine.
